City of Dearborn partners with Student Interns for Utility Mapping Project - The City of Dearborn and Dearborn public school students formed a partnership to fulfill both of their needs. The students received real-world GIS, GPS and field data collection experience and the City received the manpower it needed to complete an important utility mapping project. Pitney Bowes to Acquire MapInfo - March 15, 2007 - Pitney Bowes Inc. today announced it has entered into a merger agreement to acquire MapInfo Corporation for approximately $408 million in cash, net of expected cash on MapInfo’s balance sheet at the time of closing. Michigan Firm Becomes Leica Geosystems Distributor - April 6, 2007 - Abletech of Dexter, a 13 year old engineering consulting firm, has recently become a Leica Geosystems' machine automation distributor.
Board of Director Elections - IMAGIN members should have received the ballot for the IMAGIN Board of Directors election. Please take the time to cast your vote. If you did not receive a ballot, contact IMAGIN at info@imagin.org or vote on Monday May 7th at the Conference. No ballots will be accepted after the May 7th close of the registration booth. Join the IMAGIN Board of Directors at the annual IMAGIN Membership meeting on Tuesday from 4:00-4:30.

Detroit Community Data Connection - "Sharing data for the good of the community" is the description of the Detroit Community Data Connection. This web site provides interactive maps, static maps, reports and data sheets regarding Detroit, Wayne County and the remainder of Southeastern Michigan. The data they provide through reports, static maps and interactive maps include CENSUC data, population, health, historic sites, community information, SMART bus routes, DDOT lines, Police Districts, Public Libraries, Hospitals, City Halls and Public Recreation centers as well as Detroit aerial imagery.     Web Mapping Site of the Month
    The City of Grand Rapids - The city of Grand Rapids includes a public viewer as well as secure applications that require a login. The public viewer includes aerial imagery, relief, transportation as well as numerous other layers. They have created several specific applications including a road closures interactive map, a parcel information query application, a planning map as well as an application to allow a public inquiry by locating a spot on the interactive map, selecting the problem category (such as abandoned vehicle, potholes, etc.) and entering a problem description to alert city staff to the problem.
