Biography:
I discovered the awesome world of GIS a little over ten years ago in my undergrad. Since then, I’ve applied GIS to so many facets of my life. During master’s degree at the University of Michigan, I completed a GIS-based thesis and taught several GIS classes. I’ve worked across several sectors including private consulting firms, non-profit organizations, and, most recently, public service in my role as GIS Lead for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. I am currently the Outreach Chair ('21-'23) for URISA’s GIS Vanguard Cabinet, “an advisory board made up of passionate, young geospatial professionals”! I also organize and host "#GISchat”, a weekly and worldwide forum on Twitter and Mastodon for people all over the world to connect and network with other geospatial industry professionals and discuss topics of interest. This outlet averages thousands of interactions and reaches 800,000+ people per week. Because of my professional accomplishments and involvement in the GIS community, I was named one of xyHt Magazine's 22 Young Geospatial Pros To Watch In 2022.
Why Would You Like to Serve (Continue) on the Board of IMAGIN?
I enjoy being an active member and leader of the geospatial community. In my free time, I work to contribute to the GIS profession in fundamental ways such as conference speaking, committee participation, and outreach. I also strive to make GIS more engaging, relatable, and fun through my teaching and sharing of what I find fascinating and amusing about the community. With my tenure at URISA’s GIS Vanguard Cabinet (a committee that “strives to engage young practitioners, increase their numbers in the organization, and better understand the concerns facing these future leaders of the geospatial community”) ending, I’m looking for ways to continue being an active member of the geospatial community. I am especially interested in being more involved in the local Michigan geospatial community, which is why I’m excited to apply for the IMAGIN Board of Directors. This is a great state and, from my involvement in past local conferences, there’s a great group of Michigan geospatial practitioners that I would like to support.
Past IMAGIN Involvement:
I signed up for my first IMAGIN membership in 2017, when I graduated with my Master’s and entered the GIS workforce. I was finally able to attend my first IMAGIN conference in 2022 and had a well-received presentation titled, “Streamlining Project Workflows that Involve Multiple Esri Applications”. I will be presenting at the 2023 IMAGIN conference next month. I have also thoroughly enjoyed connecting with colleagues through the regular IMAGIN meetups. Tangentially related – I’ve also participated in the MiCAMP conferences for the past two years, presenting in an official capacity as representative from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
Sandon Lettieri
GIS Analyst @ Livingston County
Education:
Eastern Michigan University – B.S. (Double Major - Social Science & Urban Planning), 2008
Eastern Michigan University – M.S. (Geographic Information Systems), 2011
Biography:
Born and raised in Metro Detroit, as a child I was always fascinated with old roadmaps, atlases, and those state shaped magnets. My unintentional journey towards GIS began when I started college at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan as an art major in 2001. After switching majors and settling on a double major in social science and urban planning, I stumbled onto my first GIS class in 2006. While the subject did challenge me, it was a challenge that I needed. After graduating in 2008 with my bachelor’s in social science and urban planning from Eastern Michigan University, I took on an internship with Washtenaw County in Ann Arbor, Michigan within their Planning Department. During that internship I became much more familiar with GIS and grew to really enjoy the challenge that it offered. In 2010 I started working on a master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University with a focus on GIS, graduating in 2011. While in graduate school, I started working for ASTI Environmental in Brighton, Michigan as a GIS Technician where I gained a lot of experience as a one person GIS operation. Following graduation, I took on a position with Sanborn Map Company in Ann Arbor, Michigan as a GIS Analyst, working primarily with land cover data and broadband mapping projects.
In 2013, I started my current position at Livingston County in Howell, Michigan where I am mostly a one person GIS operation. Since joining Livingston County, I have overseen a tremendous change with our GIS infrastructure. In 2014, I launched our ArcGIS Online environment which hosts all our public facing GIS applications including our Parcel Viewer (launched 2017), Crime Mapping (launched 2018), COVID Dashboard (2020) and various Election Results applications to name a few. I also built our internal ArcGIS Enterprise environment which provides detailed up-to-date parcel, road centerline and address information to our permitting departments and fiber infrastructure routing to our information technology department. To support these applications, have prepared a variety of python scripts that provide nightly updates across both internal and external platforms. Along with my more complex tasks, regular data maintenance is a very significant part of my role where I am always editing and cleaning up our parcel fabric as well as keeping our road centerline and address data up to date for Central Dispatch. On top of all that I am responsible for, I still find time to make colorful maps for projects ranging from property sales to broadband internet. Every day presents a new challenge and opportunity to learn a new technology.
Why Would You Like to Serve (Continue) on the Board of IMAGIN?
While I had heard of IMAGIN as early as my undergrad education, I didn't become a member until around 2014 after joining Livingston County. As I have become steadily more involved over the years through meetups and conferences, I have found that the networking and knowledge within IMAGIN to be incredibly valuable and would love to serve in a greater capacity.
Past IMAGIN Involvement:
Attended 2018 IMAGIN Conference (Accepted the GIS for Everyone Award on behalf of Livingston County GIS). Presenter at the 2019 IMAGIN Conference. Regular attendee at the Southeast Michigan Meetups.

Graduating from WMU in 2012 with a Degree in Geography (GIS), Keith was instantly enraptured by the blending of map-making with cutting-edge technology. While all manner of GIS is exciting and awesome, the shadows of Future GIS work showed its face in his first real geospatial job, maintaining GIS utility records and assets for the City of Toledo with Surveyors and Engineers. Fast forward to 2023, and Keith oversees all UAV and Photogrammetric projects at Giffels Webster and is the GIS custodian of survey-related matters and data.
In the office, Keith is all about transforming all kinds of data into cool and useful information. Outside the office, he still geeks out about maps, and works in the realm of community theatre onstage and off (and serves as board secretary for the Community Theater Association of Michigan).
